Virginia Thackston Newman

Dublin, Georgia - Virginia Jones Thackston Newman, 88, died February 23, 2009 at Dublinaire Nursing Home, Dublin, GA. Born in Savannah, she is the daughter of the late William Percy Jones and Julia Virginia Coffin Jones. She lived in Savannah until 1997 when she moved to Dublin, GA. For many years, she was a Physicians Assistant for Drs. David Fillingim and Dan Willoughby. Mrs. Newman was a former member of Southside Baptist Church and Pineland Baptist Church. She was involved in the Savannah Little Theater for many years. Preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey Clinton Thackston, Jr. and her second husband, Willis G. Newman and son, William Harvey Thackston, and her sister, Ashley J. Kitchens.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, E. Munro and Denise D. Thackston of Columbia, SC; son and daughter-in-law, James C. and Cristobel E. Thackston of Argyle, Scotland; daughter and son-in-law, Jane T. and Judson H. Hamilton, Jr. of Dublin, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Virginia T. and Stephen E. Dorsey of McDonough, GA; daughter-in-law, Beverly Thackston of Clover, SC; grandchildren, David, Clinton, Crystal, Charles, Brandy, Randy, Teresa, Hope, Rene', Trip, Elizabeth, Charles, Buck, Joe, Julia and Jonathan; seventeen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, sister-in-law, Virginia T. Dale of Dublin, GA and one niece and one nephew.

Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Funeral: 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 26, 2009 in the Hodgson Chapel of Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors with Chaplain Dr. Jack E. Brown officiating.

Burial: Bonaventure Cemetery.
